VicPD COVID-19 vaccination rates

VicPD sent back its COVID vaccination stats after an FOI. It looks like employees, reserves, volunteers, contractors and students had a combined 98.5% vaccination rate (394/400), with six people remaining unvaccinated and instead taking the free tests VicPD makes available.

That rate is about the same as the public service in November 2021. It’s still interesting what it says about VicPD that they chose to allow officers to be unvaccinated — despite being out of step with other public positions — because they thought it would keep people from resigning.

VicPD didn’t break down its stats by officers, staff, etc. There are also seven people not captured in those vaccinated or unvaccinated figures, which VicPD seems to attribute to a “variable number of contractors.”

For the tests results (16/173 positive, or 9.25%), note that’s not necessarily just stats from those six unvaccinated folks. Per VicPD’s policy, the tests can be taken by people who think they’ve been exposed to COVID at work, so it’s not clear who’s making up those numbers.

Those tests also don’t capture anyone who tested positive outside VicPD’s in-house tests which came into effect November 15. E.g. any positive cases before that time, or after that time but which were discovered through public or other testing.

Here's a link back to VicPD's COVID vaccination policy if folks want to check it out.
