VicPD doesn’t know how many people are injured on its property, but we do
How many people has VicPD injured in their jail and at VicPD HQ in the last four years? They say there’s no way to know without manually reviewing files, so they will just keep that a mystery.
Update: According to data obtained through a subsequent FOI, between 2018 and 2021, 398 VicPD use of force reports (12%) were in a police building or cell, or about two a week. In 99 of those reports, VicPD says the person was injured, and in 38 reports, they confirm it was VicPD that injured the person.
It turns out all that was necessary to find that data was an Excel filter.
It’s another important piece of data that VicPD doesn’t bother tracking or reporting.
